About Us
Based in Southeast London, we are a online vintage store working hard to fight the fashion waste crisis facing our planet. We are on a mission to make fashion more eco-friendly for everyone, whilst bringing you quality pieces at a fair price and ethically sourced.
We do this by transforming what was once old into something new; giving an item a new lease of life through the process of upcycling it, be that altering a pattern or recreating an item from scratch using recycled fabrics. We also have some sick vintage!
A Lookdown Hobby That Grew Into A Business
I've always dipped in and out of upcycling clothes since I was a little kid, getting into trouble for cutting up items to make new outfits. In my teens I would rework my aunts jeans to make skirts instead of buying new, so its definitely been a slight obsession for many years.
During lockdown to keep myself sane I got really stuck in upcycling t-shirts and sweatshirts and started selling these on Etsy. It quickly grow so I expanded into vintage. Now I sell across many platforms such as Depop, ASOS Marketplace and our website.
The Growth
Starting out in a small bedroom I was running out of space, commandeering my parents shed and turning it into a studio. This was also quickly outgrown and I had to make the decision of how far I wanted to take Vintage Recovery. Was it always just going to be a lockdown business or something greater? I chose the latter and it was the best decision I made.
Where We Are Now
So now we're based out of a lock up in Southeast London, getting involved with as many local and London based festivals and events as possible. 2023/24 will see further grow of Vintage Recovery, hopefully expanding into pop up spaces and even our very own store.
Events
I love getting involved in local events such as Bexley Eco Fest, rallying unconvinced family to help out, meeting people from the community and selling. We have even started our own events Vintage Recovery Marketplace, that showcase local sustainable sellers, not only providing a much needed market space for seller but creating a community. These events will be advertised on our socials, so if you would like to get involved, then please get in touch at kirsty@vintagerecovery.co.uk
