Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in London!
Share
The Queen of England is the first monarch in UK history to approach 70 years of service as our leader and it’s very exciting. The official term is called a platinum jubilee, and such a prestigious event has warranted many different types of celebrations. London particularly is set to be a hotbed of different events that are all going to celebrate 70 years in the life of this amazing woman.
So, what is it that is actually going to happen when the Queen‘s platinum jubilee takes place? What events can we expect to see? Let’s take a look at some of them together.
The Bank Holiday
One of the biggest and most noteworthy events that will happen to celebrate the platinum jubilee is a four day bank holiday that takes place from the 2nd to the 5th of June.
There will be a lot of smaller events taking place across London, like parades, street parties, demonstrations, and other things besides. The holiday is merely the setting for all of this to take place, and it’s worth noting that we may well find it becomes a regular occurrence each year.
There’s going to be events like the 2nd of June, where there will be an official parade to mark the Queen’s birthday, and the 5th of June, which is a platinum jubilee pageant. These events are all in honour of the Queen, and they’re all going to be amazing.
Exhibitions and Events
Naturally, there’s going to be a lot of exhibitions and events that will mark the platinum jubilee.
You can go to places like Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace and see some of the iconic portraits and displays that have been so frequently tied to the Queen.
These events are running all through the second half of the year, from July to October, and it’s great to be able to see some history.
Street Parties
Of course, there is plenty of scope for ordinary people to start celebrating on their own, which is why we are probably going to see a lot of street parties. Street parties are a great way for everybody to come together in a nice setting, and it’s a good way to spend time with neighbours and friends.
However, the very relaxed, informal nature of street parties means that people will just wander in and out. They’re going to be a mainstay of the event!
Final Thoughts
So, when it comes to the platinum jubilee, there’s a lot to appreciate here. This is going to be an amazing celebration of a woman who has been in service to this country longer than any other monarch who came before her.
70 years is an astounding period of time, and it’s longer than some people live. The Queen has given pretty much her entire life in service to the UK, and she deserves this recognition. We can only hope that these celebrations are a fitting enough tribute to a lady who has gone above and beyond for her country all her life.
